Robert Mugabe, the former President of Zimbabwe, was laid to rest at his home in Harare, Zimbabwe, after the government reversed its initial decision to bury him at Heroes Acre, a national heroes' monument.
According to reports, the government had initially rejected the family's request to bury Mugabe at his home in Zvimba, citing the need to honor his legacy by burying him at Heroes Acre.
However, in a sudden change of heart, the government announced on Friday, September 27, 2019, that it would allow Mugabe to be buried at his home, citing the need to 'respect the family's wishes.'
The family had expressed disappointment and frustration with the government's initial decision, accusing it of using its power to dictate the terms of Mugabe's burial.
It is not clear what prompted the government to change its stance, but the decision has been welcomed by the family, who had been pushing for Mugabe to be buried at his home.
Robert Mugabe passed away on September 6, 2019, at the age of 95, while receiving treatment for cancer in Singapore. His body was flown back to Zimbabwe, where he was given a state funeral in Harare.
