Kenya Railways Corporation has issued a public notice to reclaim and repossess all its land and property illegally acquired by private individuals across the country.

According to the notice, all those in possession of illegal title deeds are required to surrender these documents at the Corporation's head offices by 30th October, 2019.

Managing Director Atanas K. Maina urged anyone with knowledge of illegal title deeds on Kenya Railways land and property to report to the Corporation.

The Corporation plans to demolish all illegal structures built on the railway reserve land countrywide, including along the Mombasa-Kisumu-Malaba railway corridor and other branch lines.

Those who fail to comply with the directives of the notice will be evicted without further notice, the Corporation warned.

A report by the Office of the Auditor General in 2018 revealed that several plots countrywide are occupied by illegal developers without the Corporation's authority.

The report highlighted the example of Limuru Railway Station, which constitutes 9 industrial plots and 3 acres of land within Kikuyu Railway station.

As of 2019, the Corporation had sought court intervention to repossess 27 parcels of land, out of 529 parcels that have been illegally allocated across Kenya.

The Auditor's report also raised concerns about the accuracy and validity of the Corporation's property, plant and equipment balance of Sh 24,941,511,520 as at 30th June, 2018.
