On Friday morning, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha conducted an inspection at Greenfield Academy in Migadini, Changamwe Constituency, Mombasa County, which led to the immediate closure of the institution.
Magoha ordered the closure of the academy, citing concerns over the safety and well-being of the 455 pupils enrolled. The pupils have been directed to be admitted to Umoja Primary School in the same locality.
The closure of Greenfield Academy comes just five days after the tragic collapse of a classroom at Precious Talents School in Dagoretti, which resulted in the loss of eight pupils and left dozens injured.
Following the incident, the government withdrew the operating licenses of Precious Talents School and ordered the transfer of its pupils to nearby public schools.
Additionally, Pama Academy in Kangemi has also been ordered shut, with 472 pupils being distributed to New Kihumbuini and Kihumbuini primary schools in Kangemi.
The government has accused Non-Governmental Organizations of irregularly funding private schools, which has led to the closure of several institutions.
As part of the government's efforts to ensure the safety and education of pupils, the closure of Precious Talents School will see the transfer of its 800 pupils to neighboring public schools, including Ngong Forest Primary School, Jamhuri Primary School, and Riruta Satellite Primary school.
