Compassion International and Schneider Electric Team Up to Bring Solar Power to Rural Kenya

Published on September 27, 2019, a partnership between Compassion International and Schneider Electric aims to bring solar power to 1,700 homes in rural Kenya.

The Homaya Solar Home System, an all-in-one standalone solar solution, will be distributed to homes in Kakamega, Kitui, Mwingi, and Sultan Hamud. This initiative is part of Compassion International's efforts to improve lives and release children from poverty through holistic child development programs.

Ms. Linet Ochieng, Senior Manager of Business Support at Compassion International, Kenya, noted that the organization seeks to ensure children can thrive and achieve their full potential by addressing their spiritual, physical, social, and economic needs.

“The Solar lamps will go a long way to improve academic standards, reduce health risks, and provide adequate and affordable lighting not only to the child beneficiary but also families and the community will benefit,” Ms. Ochieng said during the handover ceremony.

Carol Koech, Head of Sustainability, Schneider Electric East Africa, emphasized that Schneider Electric's mission is to offer safe, reliable, efficient, and sustainable solutions to its clients. She added that the partnership with Compassion International aligns with their commitment to promote sustainable development and provide safe and clean access to energy.
