Published on September 27, 2019, a recent survey has shed light on the optimism levels of citizens across major African economies, with Kenyans emerging as the most optimistic.

According to the Global Optimism Outlook Survey, 70% of Kenyans view themselves as optimists, surpassing the global average of 56% and the continental average of 64%. This optimism is attributed to various factors, including the thriving digital technology landscape, decentralised system of government, and improved socio-economic conditions in the country.

The survey, commissioned by Expo 2020 Dubai and conducted by YouGov, tracked people's priorities for the future, focusing on sustainability, economic growth, technology, travel, and more. The survey involved over 20,000 people across 23 countries, representing diverse demographics.

When it comes to creating a better future, Kenyans consider natural resource conservation, alternative energy, and zero waste as top priorities. In contrast, they rank technological developments such as ride-sharing and electric vehicles as least important.

Interestingly, 85% of Kenyan respondents believe that knowledge gathering, learning, and access to education are key to unlocking opportunities in the year 2050. Other essential strategies include access to resources (82%) and collaboration across borders and cultures (81%).

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, stated,
