Robert Mugabe's Burial Site: Zimbabwe Government Relents, Allows Former President to be Buried at Home

Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe will be buried at his home in Zvimba district on Saturday, September 28, after the government relented to his family's wishes.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, which disclosed that the family had chosen to bury the deceased at his home after three weeks of public debates over his final resting place.

According to reports, the government had initially proposed a burial at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, but the family insisted on a private ceremony at Mugabe's homestead.

Remains of the founding president were flown back home from Singapore on Wednesday, September 11, where he had been receiving treatment since April 2019.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka led the Kenyan delegation to attend Mugabe's funeral service on Saturday, September 14, at Harare sports stadium.

Despite the government's initial plans for a public event, the funeral service turned out to be a low-key affair with barely a third of the 60,000 capacity stadium filled.

Mugabe was the president of Zimbabwe for 37 years from 1980 to 2017, when he was ousted following a military coup. He died on Friday, September 6, aged 95, after a long illness.
