On September 27, 2019, a single father of three, John Mugaa, was arrested in Isiolo for allegedly selling food in unhygienic conditions.
After being granted Sh11,000 bail, Mugaa was unable to raise the full amount, leaving his children stranded outside the courtroom.
However, the kindness of court staff soon turned the situation around. A court employee, moved by the sight of a 10-year-old girl crying in the corridors, rallied his colleagues to help raise the bail amount.
Within an hour, 30 workers, including police officers, a probation officer, and a prosecutor, had raised Sh11,500, allowing Mugaa to be released from jail and reunited with his children.
After his release, Mugaa expressed his gratitude to the court staff who had bailed him out, saying he was touched by their kindness.
