Published on September 27, 2019, the Harambee Starlets are facing a potential setback in their Olympic qualifying campaign.

According to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa, the team's budget has not been approved by the Ministry of Sports, putting their fixture against Ghana at risk.

‘’The team was not supported against Malawi and we are afraid the same might happen again. At the moment we have not heard from the ministry,’’ Mwendwa told Standard Sports.

FKF is reportedly broke and has requested support from the Ministry of Sports, but the Principal Secretary, Kirimi Kaberia, has confirmed that the request is yet to be approved.

‘“We have come up with rules and regulations that all the federations must follow before funding is released. While we understand the urgency of the Starlets’ request, it must go through the same process that I cannot interfere with,’’ he said.

The Starlets have been facing financial woes despite promises of support from Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed.
