On September 22, 2019, a gruesome murder shook the community at Rai Cement factory in Kericho County. Factory manager Chetan Vyas was found dead in his bedroom, with his hands and legs bound with a rope tied around his neck.

According to Kericho Deputy Police Commander Patricia Nasio, the assailants gained entry into the house through the roof, lifting tiles from the roof to access the kitchen store before proceeding to the bedroom where Vyas was sleeping.

Despite the suspects disconnecting the exterior CCTV camera, their images were captured inside the house, although their faces were obscured by masks.

Police investigations revealed that the gangsters made away with some bags whose contents are unknown.

Following a thorough investigation, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a watchman suspected of involvement in the murder after retrieving CCTV footage showing him removing a ladder from the perimeter wall.

The watchman was arrested by detectives from Sosiot Police Station and taken in for further interrogation.
