On a recent visit to a grocery store in Kenya, Gerry Van Niekerk's life was saved by the kindness of strangers.

According to a Facebook post seen by Nyakundi Report, Van Niekerk had gone to the store for his usual shopping when he suddenly felt unwell.

He stretched out his hand for help to a lady next to him in the queue, had a blackout, and collapsed. Fortunately, staff and customers came to his aid, letting him sip apple juice and feed him yoghurt.

Van Niekerk was grateful for their help and called them 'angels.' He thanked them for taking care of him in his stupor and expressed his hope that his story would encourage others to be kind to those in need.

His friends and family were concerned about his health but were relieved that he was safe and sound.

Here are some of the comments from Van Niekerk's friends and family:

  • Karen Pheiffer asked, 'Are you ok my friend?'
  • Karen Earley Beliveau said, 'Scary; what happened?'
  • Innantia Happy Magcanya said, 'So sorry Gerry, hope u are go dear!'
  • 'Hey hope your ok and God bless' said Samantha Tshiula.
  • Katie Morris suggested, 'Maybe your Blood Sugar was Low.'
  • Marianne Cassidy wrote, 'Mc Donald Take care.'
  • Alarice Germann sent lots of love and light, asking if Van Niekerk was feeling better now.
