On September 26, 2019, Zimbabwe's government announced a U-turn in the burial plans for former President Robert Mugabe, who died in Singapore on September 6, 2019, at the age of 95.
The government had initially proposed a burial at the National Heroes Acre, but after tensions erupted, they agreed to cooperate with the Mugabe family's request to bury him in his home village of Zvimba.
Government spokesman Nick Mangwana stated, "Government is cooperating with the Mugabe family in their new position."
