As the 2019 census came to a close on August 30, officials in Kajiado County, Kenya, were expecting prompt payment for their work. However, nearly a month later, many were still waiting.

On September 25, officials from the Ndogo ya Kitengela sub-county office spoke to NTV, expressing their frustration with the delayed payment.

"One week now, I've been fighting for the people I led in the census enumeration exercise to be paid, but they haven't been paid yet, nor have they been told when they will be paid," said Beatrice Kehubo.

According to the officials, some of them have not been registered on the payroll system, making it difficult for them to receive payment.

Following the issue, the officials have now called on the Interior Minister, Fred Matiang'i, to intervene and ensure they are paid on time.

"We went to the DC's office in Isinya and were told that there's a person named Simon Gaitho who has blocked our payment," said Samuel Parahunya.

The issue has also been reported in Naivasha, where census officials have been protesting delayed payment.

The 2019 census was completed on August 30, and Kenyans were expecting prompt payment within three months.
