On September 22, 2019, Chetan Vyas, the 50-year-old General Manager of Rai Cement factory, was brutally murdered in his home in Soin ward, Kericho County. The suspects, who wore balaclavas, gained entry into Vyas' house by removing tiles from the store and ambushed him in the bedroom, tying his hands and legs before strangling him to death using a rope.
According to Kericho County Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Stephen Magwe, the watchman at the factory is allegedly linked to the gruesome murder. Magwe stated that the suspect was captured by CCTV cameras moving the ladder used by his accomplices to scale the factory's perimeter wall and enter Vyas' house.
Magwe added that the suspect is currently being interrogated, and detectives are following crucial leads to catch the other suspects who are on the run. The body of Vyas was removed to Avenue hospital mortuary in Kisumu County for preservation.
Twitter users have taken to the social media platform to express their condolences and seek information about the murder. Amit Vyas, a Twitter user, pleaded for news about his uncle, while Md. Mastaam63 appealed to the Indian Prime Minister to assist the deceased's family in flying the body to Ahmedabad for the last burial rites.
