On September 26, 2019, a shocking murder took place in Kericho, leaving the community in shock. Chetan Vyas, the 50-year-old General Manager of the Rai Cement factory, was brutally murdered by suspects who gained entry into his house on Sunday night.
According to the Kericho County Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the suspects removed the store's tiles to gain access to the house, ambushed Vyas in the bedroom, tied his hands and legs, and strangled him to death using a rope.
Stephen Magwe, the Kericho County DCI, revealed that the watchman at the factory, located in Soin ward at the border of Kericho and Kisumu County, is allegedly linked to the murder. Magwe stated that the suspect was captured by CCTV cameras moving the ladder used by his accomplices to scale the factory's perimeter wall and into the deceased's house.
The suspect was arrested by a team of detectives drawn from the Belgut Directorate of Criminal Investigations after reviewing the footage. Magwe added that the suspect is currently being interrogated and that they are following crucial leads to catch the other suspects who are on the run.
Patricia Nasio, the Kericho County Deputy Police Commander, earlier stated that the suspects who wore balaclavas had been captured by CCTV cameras mounted outside Vyas' house, but they dismounted the cameras inside the house. Nasio also revealed that the suspects ransacked the house and made away with six sacks, but the contents of the sacks are unknown.
