On September 26, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a raid on Plan 254 Club in Kilimani, Nairobi, uncovering a significant stash of fake goods.
Among the seized items were 1 million fake US dollars and 147 fake gold bars, which were discovered hidden in a safe. The raid was led by Kilimani Police Station DCIO, Fatma Hadi.
During the operation, several suspects were arrested, including flamboyant personality Stephen Mark Oduk, also known as Lucas Mbadi. Oduk has a history of involvement in fake gold and money laundering cases, with multiple court cases pending against him.
Notably, Oduk was part of a group of 16 men arrested in May for dealing with fake gold and contraband. The group was found with fake gold bars and other illicit items at a house in Kilimani.
Eight vehicles, including a Subaru, Mercedes Benz, and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, were also impounded during the raid. Oduk's arrest was notable for his failure to provide an identity card, instead claiming his name was Stephen Mark.
Further investigation revealed that Oduk was involved in a kidnapping case on October 15, 2013, where he, dressed in a police uniform, was part of a gang that kidnapped two Indian children, Ahwal Kaul Mahjan and Abhita Kaur Mahjan. The group consisted of six men, including a police officer who had been interdicted for his involvement in a previous ATM theft.
