On Wednesday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Kenya seized six high-end cars that had been stolen from their countries of origin and smuggled into the country to evade taxes.
The vehicles, which included three Mercedes-Benzes and three Range Rovers, were impounded after investigations by Interpol revealed that one of the Range Rovers was stolen from the United Kingdom and a Mercedes-Benz was stolen from a South African citizen, Mrs. Tshegofasto Mabyane.
According to the authorities, the cars will be handed over to the International Criminal Police Organization for further processing, while three other vehicles were processed as semi-trailers in a bid to evade taxes.
Another Range Rover was found to have been registered using a Toyota Probox number plate, a clear attempt to conceal its true identity.
The vehicles will now be handed over to the National Transport and Safety Authority and Kenya Revenue Authority for further authentication.
As the suspects involved in the car smuggling saga are set to be charged, the Director of Criminal Investigations warned, "No one will steal from one country and enjoy the sweat of others while in another country."
