On September 26, 2019, Senator Isaac Mwaura took to his Facebook page to share a throwback photo (TBT) of a boy addressing a gathering in 1986, claiming it was him.
However, the authenticity of the photo was quickly questioned by Kenyans, who pointed out that the image was in color, which was not possible in 1986, especially in rural areas like Githunguri, Kiambu County.
One user, Isaac Ojwang', stated, 'Politicians lie every time.'
Another user, Brian Georges, posed, 'A clear coloured HD photo in 1986? With those clothes? And that brick house? In Githunguri?'
Senator Mwaura responded vaguely, stating that he had seen the photo in other sources, without acknowledging the original source.
However, a quick Google search revealed that the photo was actually taken in 2016 by Associated Press, and it was of a three-year-old boy named Cassim Jaffalie from Malawi.
The photo was taken at the boy's family home in Machinga, about 200 kilometres northeast of Blantyre, Malawi.
According to The Sun, Cassim's father, Razik Jaffalie, gave up his work as a bicycle taxi operator to protect his son in a country where attacks against people living with albinism are constant.
