Published on September 26, 2019, a partnership between Compassion International, Kenya and Schneider Electric has brought solar power to over 1,700 homes in rural Kenya.

Compassion International, a non-profit organization, has been working to improve the lives of children and families in Kenya through various programs, including providing access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

As part of its efforts, Compassion International has partnered with Schneider Electric to provide the Homaya Solar Home System, a standalone solar solution that meets the critical energy needs of a home.

The Homaya System includes a reliable Lithium Ferro Phosphate battery with a five-year lifespan, two lamps with five-meter long cables, and three USB ports to charge devices such as mobile phones.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Linet Ochieng, Senior Manager of Business Support at Compassion International, Kenya, noted that the organization seeks to ensure children can thrive and achieve their full potential by addressing their spiritual, physical, social, and economic needs.

“The Solar lamps will go a long way to improve academic standards, reduce health risks, and provide adequate and affordable lighting not only to the child beneficiary but also families and the community will benefit,” she said.

Carol Koech, Head of Sustainability at Schneider Electric East Africa, emphasized the importance of providing safe, reliable, efficient, and sustainable solutions to its clients.

“For populations who are not yet connected to the grid, solutions like Homaya come in handy as these products have been designed to withstand conditions such as extreme heat or humidity, while also being affordable,” she noted.
