Published on September 26, 2019, by Wanjiku Maina, this article explores the complexities of love and heartbreak.

When we're in a relationship, we often idealize the idea of love, thinking that it's the key to happiness. However, as we grow older and experience more relationships, we realize that love is not always enough.

Trust issues, past baggage, health conditions, family interference, power dynamics, societal obligations, and even weather conditions can all contribute to the breakdown of a relationship.

It's not uncommon for people to walk away from someone they love because it's the easier thing to do, or because they want to protect themselves from further hurt.

As Wanjiku Maina so eloquently puts it, 'You can't love someone into playing their part.' We can only hold on for so long, hoping that one day our partner will see the value in our relationship and want to work towards it.

But when that day never comes, it's time to walk away, even if it means leaving behind a piece of our heart.

As DeBarge sang, 'the heart is not so smart.' We will fall in love again, and maybe, just maybe, fate will smile on us and the love will last.
