On Wednesday, detectives from the Serious Crime Unit at the Mombasa port impounded six luxury cars suspected of being smuggled from other countries.
The vehicles, which included three Mercedes-Benzes and three Range Rovers, were confirmed to have been stolen from their countries of origin.
According to the DCI, further investigations by Interpol revealed that one of the Mercedes-Benzes was stolen from Mrs Tshegofasto Mabyane in South Africa and one of the Range Rovers was reported stolen in the UK.
The two vehicles will be handed over to Interpol and the South African police for further investigation.
Three of the six vehicles were found to have evaded tax by being processed as semi-trailers.
Additionally, one of the Range Rovers had a Toyota Probox registration number.
The four vehicles will be handed over to the National Transport and Safety Authority and the Kenya Revenue Authority for further processing.
The DCI has assured that all perpetrators will be charged accordingly.
This incident is not an isolated case, as in March, officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority intercepted three high-end fuel guzzlers at the Mombasa Port, which were on transit to Uganda.
Furthermore, in 2015, a report in the UK's Independent newspaper revealed that the British police and their East African counterparts had seized stolen vehicles worth over Sh161 million in Uganda.
