Published on September 26, 2019, a Molo court was left stunned after a middle-aged man showed little remorse after being handed a life sentence for defiling his six-year-old sister.

The accused had admitted to defiling his younger sister on several occasions, despite being warned by the magistrate that the charge carried a life sentence.

The court heard that the six-year-old girl had been defiled by her elder brother on multiple dates in September at Bararget village in Kuresoi sub-county.

According to the court, the girl's neighbour had noticed that she was not playing well with other children and later inquired about her well-being, only to discover that she had been defiled by her brother.

The neighbour reported the matter to a nyumba kumi official, who later informed the police, leading to the accused's arrest.

He was booked at Keringet police station, and the minor was taken to a health facility for medical examination.

In his mitigation, the accused claimed that he was drunk when he committed the heinous act and was not aware of his actions.

Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita, however, told the accused that he had 14 days to appeal his sentence.
