Cameroonian referee Sidi Alioum, who officiated the final match of this year's Africa Cup of Nations, will oversee the CAF Champions League match between Gor Mahia and USM Alger on Sunday.

Alioum, a 37-year-old Air Force officer, has extensive experience in high-profile fixtures, including the final tie in Egypt where Algeria pipped Senegal 1-0 to be crowned African champions.

His appointment highlights the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) seriousness in taking the match, where Gor Mahia needs a 3-0 win to advance to the group stages for the first time.

USM Alger won the first leg match 4-1 at home, leaving Gor Mahia with a daunting task to qualify.

Gor Mahia treasurer Sally Bolo has urged fans to buy tickets online, priced at Sh2000 for VVIP, Sh500 for VIP, and Sh200 for terraces, to help the club cover match expenses.

The club is struggling to honor its fixtures since their shirt sponsors SportPesa pulled out, and is in need of Sh12 million to pay arrears to players.
