On September 25, 2019, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo called for President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to quit politics in the 2022 general elections.

Kabogo claimed that the involvement of President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila in the 2022 poll would negate their push to unite Kenyans through the Build the Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Speaking at KTN Media, Kabogo alleged that the President and the ODM leader were pushing BBI to secure good positions in the government executive.

He urged them to reconsider their participation in the 2022 poll, saying it would plunge the nation into tribal groupings contests.

Kabogo also called on Deputy President William Ruto to step down from the presidential race, saying it was necessary for the country's healing process.

He warned that if the two leaders participated in the Kibra by-election campaigns, the handshake between them would be at risk.
