Published on September 26, 2019, a day after a classroom collapsed at Precious Talent School in Nairobi, killing eight pupils and injuring over 60 others.
Today, a postmortem on the bodies of the eight pupils who lost their lives will be conducted, with the results expected to form the basis of charges against those targeted for prosecution.
According to officials aware of the probe, the preliminary findings will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, along with various recommendations.
As part of the investigation, detectives have questioned at least 30 people, including the owner of Precious Talent School, parents of the children who died and those injured, and officials from City Hall's planning department.
The officials were asked to provide approval documents for the collapsed structure, and to produce inspection reports, if any.
“It seems there was no approval. City Hall officials never inspected the place. We will prefer a number of charges on a number of suspects,” said an official aware of the probe.
