Published on September 26, 2019, a letter from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to the National Assembly Lands committee revealed that Tiyah Galgalo's tax compliance was questionable.

Galgalo, a former Isiolo Woman Representative, was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointment to the National Land Commission (NLC). However, her nomination is now at risk due to falsified tax declarations.

The KRA withdrew a compliance certificate issued to Galgalo on October 23, 2018, and internal disciplinary action is being taken against officers who issued it.

Investigations are underway into her 2017 and 2018 tax returns, and the tax authority is expected to summon Galgalo for questioning over transactions she did.

The lands committee reconvenes on Thursday to finalize its report on the nominees, amid intense lobbying due to the massive interests within the Lands commission.

Other nominees, including former cabinet minister Kazungu Kambi and Getrude Nduku Nguku, are also facing scrutiny over corruption issues and inconsistencies in their documents.
