On September 25, 2019, a court in Molo, Kenya, handed down a life sentence to a man found guilty of defiling his six-year-old sister.
The accused, Wesley Langat, was charged with sexually assaulting the young girl and committing an indecent act with a child on the same dates.
Langat pleaded guilty to the offence, blaming his actions on alcohol consumption.
According to court records, on September 21, 2019, a neighbour noticed the six-year-old girl was not playing well with other children and inquired about her well-being.
The minor revealed that her elder brother had been defiling her at their father's house when everyone was away and threatened her not to disclose the act to anyone.
The concerned neighbour reported the matter to a 'Nyumba Kumi' official, who later informed the police, leading to Langat's arrest and prosecution.
The minor was taken to a health facility for medical examination.
Langat has 14 days to appeal the sentence.
