On September 25, 2019, a report to Parliament by the National Assembly's Committee on Implementation recommended that the nomination of Mwende Mwinzi as Kenya's Ambassador to Seoul, South Korea, be rescinded.

The Committee's decision was based on Mwinzi's declaration that she would not renounce her U.S citizenship, which left the appointing authority with no choice but to seek her replacement.

According to the report, the Committee also recommended that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiate an audit of all serving Ambassadors and High Commissioners to ascertain whether any of them holds dual citizenship.

The Committee further suggested that Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma investigate whether any of Kenya's envoys hold dual citizenship and consider revoking their appointment subject to a review of the law.

It is worth noting that on June 6, 2019, Parliament had approved Mwinzi's nomination as Kenya's Ambassador to Seoul South Korea on condition that she renounce her U.S citizenship.

However, three months later, Mwinzi refused to renounce her U.S citizenship, terming Parliament's conditional approval as unconstitutional.

She has since filed a petition before the Constitutional and Human Rights Court in a bid to keep her appointment.
