Published on September 25, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into the alleged theft of Ksh100 million meant for road rehabilitation in Baringo County during the 2017/2018 budget.

The commission has summoned 20 senior officials, including the County Secretary, Director of Procurement, Chief Officer of Roads and Infrastructure, and the County Chief Executive Committee member for Roads, among others.

According to EACC South Rift Director Hassan Khalid, the officials are accused of illegality in the rapid response initiative of over Sh100 million that was illegally procured and the work done was substandard.

The audit report by the Auditor General highlighted that the county department of Transport and Infrastructure budgeted to construct 102 road projects, but only 24 projects were completed, while 87 projects were ongoing.

The Auditor General's report stated that no explanation was provided for the failure to complete the projects or why the County Executive budgeted for projects it could not implement during the year.
