September 25, 2019 - The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has concluded its elections, with Britain's Sebastian Coe re-elected as president for a second term.
Sebastian Coe, a former Olympic and world champion middle-distance runner, was named head of the governing body of world athletics in 2015 and has now received his second mandate.
According to the IAAF Congress in Doha, Coe was re-elected by a unanimous vote of the 203 delegates attending the event.
Meanwhile, Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei was unsuccessful in his bid to be elected as one of the four vice presidents of the IAAF, finishing sixth in the vice presidential race with 62 votes, nine behind third-placed Al Saud.
Tuwei, who is also the president of the East African Athletics Region and senior vice president of Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA), was vying with eleven candidates for four vice presidency slots, with one position reserved for a women representative.
Despite his failure to secure a top seat, Tuwei's predecessor Isaiah Kiplagat also tried to get one of the vice-presidential positions but was not successful.
As the Kenyan athletics team prepares for the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, the team has been hit with allegations of doping against Kenyan runners, which Athletics Kenya has dismissed.
However, in response to the allegations made by a German Public Broadcaster, AK dared the broadcaster to prove the claims so as to enable it to take action against the accused.
