On September 25, 2019, the Kenyan government took the drastic measure of shutting down Bombolulu Primary School in Kibra, citing safety concerns.
The decision was made by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, who visited the school and compared its structure to that of Precious Talent, a school building that collapsed earlier, killing seven students and injuring over 50.
Magoha emphasized the need for a thorough inspection of all school buildings in the country, stating, "I have been to St Catherine Bombolulu and there is no difference between that building and the one that collapsed."
He added, "We have instructed all school buildings to be thoroughly inspected, and I have decided to personally oversee the process in Kibra."
As a result, the students of Bombolulu Primary School will be transferred to Ayany Estate School.
Magoha reassured the public that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of children, saying, "I want to assure you that the government is taking the safety of our children very seriously."
The move comes after the collapse of Precious Talent school building, which highlighted the need for a thorough inspection of all school buildings in the country.
