Manchester City's Premier League title defense is in full swing, with young players like Phil Foden looking to make their mark. Foden, 19, made his first start of the season in City's 3-0 League Cup victory over Preston on September 24, 2019.
Sterling, who returned to the starting lineup after being rested in City's 8-0 win over Watford, scored the opening goal in the match. Foden praised Sterling's work ethic and dedication to improvement, saying, "Every time I watch him, I think 'wow' and (he's) a better player every time I see him."
Sterling's influence extends beyond the pitch, with Foden crediting him with helping him improve his game. "He has got a lot more to come and that is what is good about him, he is still young and improving and wanting to improve," Foden said.
City boss Pep Guardiola also praised Sterling's determination to improve, saying, "I assure you something, in two or three years Raheem will be a better player than now because I know his work ethic."
Foden's path to regular playing time has been blocked by established midfield stars like David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, and Ilkay Gundogan. However, he remains optimistic, saying, "I am just looking forward. I am just trying to take my minutes any time they come and do my best."
