On September 25, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha made a surprise visit to Precious Talent Academy in Kibera, a day after a devastating collapse that claimed the lives of eight pupils and left 64 others injured.
The school's one-storey structure had caved in on the students, aged between eight and 13 years, as they prepared for morning classes.
Magoha immediately ordered the closure of the school and directed the 207 learners to join Ayany Estate Primary in Kibera.
He also instructed Quality Assurance and Standards Officers to conduct a nationwide inspection of all schools to ensure their infrastructure meets set standards.
Any non-compliant schools will be shut down, Magoha warned.
His move comes as engineers have blamed the poor construction of the school for the collapse.
