On September 23, 2019, a tragic accident occurred at the Precious Talent School in Ngando Ward, Nairobi County, resulting in the deaths of 8 pupils and injuring others.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has taken drastic measures to address the issue, suspending 16 county officials to facilitate investigations.

According to Sonko, the suspension is aimed at reversing the effects of years of flouting Physical Planning Regulations and restoring order and sanity in the county.

"I am convinced beyond doubt that drastic measures have to be taken to reverse the effects of years of flouting Physical Planning Regulations and restore order and sanity, before illegal structures claim more lives as has repeatedly happened before," Sonko said in a Facebook post.

As part of the measures, Sonko has appointed Pauline Kahiga as the Acting CECM Finance and Economic Planning and Veska Kangogo as the Acting CECM Health, effective immediately.

"To ensure minimal disruption of services at City Hall, I have made the following appointments that take effect immediately: 1. Pauline Kahiga as the Acting CECM Finance and Economic Planning 2. Veska Kangogo as the Acting CECM Health," Sonko stated.

Sonko has reiterated his commitment to addressing corruption that jeopardizes the lives of Nairobi residents.
