Published on September 25, 2019, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino's team suffered a shocking League Cup third-round defeat at fourth-tier Colchester.

Colchester's 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Tottenham, who were held to a goalless draw, has left Pochettino's team reeling.

Christian Eriksen, who has been a focal point of the unrest in the Tottenham camp, missed a crucial penalty in the shootout.

Several Tottenham players, including Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, and Victor Wanyama, had expressed uncertainty about their futures at the end of last season.

Despite the transfer window being closed, it remains unclear whether these players have long-term prospects at the club.

Pochettino conceded that there are still issues behind the scenes, contributing to Tottenham's lacklustre start just months after their incredible run to the Champions League final.

"When you have an unsettled squad, it's difficult, and you lose time. Then you need time to recover the time you lose," Pochettino said.

"We need time again to build that togetherness that you need when you are competing at this level. We are in a period where it's a bit tough for us, but we're keeping working to find a solution," he added.
