On September 25, 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping officially declared the Beijing Daxing International Airport open, marking a significant milestone in the country's infrastructure development.

Located 46 kilometres south of Tiananmen Square, the airport is set to operate at full capacity by 2040, boasting eight runways and a massive terminal that spans 700,000 square metres, roughly the size of 100 football pitches.

The single-terminal airport is a testament to the 'Chinese dream' envisioned by President Xi, offering a glimpse into the country's ambitious plans for growth and development.

Underneath the terminal lies a train station and metro line, allowing passengers to reach the city centre in approximately 20 minutes.

The massive project, which cost a staggering 120 billion yuan ($17.5 billion), is part of a larger infrastructure development that includes rail and road links, totalling 400 billion yuan.
