Published on September 25, 2019, a 70-year-old man, Edward Macharia, has been charged with stealing two bottles of Nivea Nourish lotion from a Naivas supermarket along Jogoo Road.

According to the prosecution, Macharia, who is serving a three-year probation sentence, committed the offence on September 20 by picking up two Nivea For Men lotions and hiding them in his heavy jacket. He then proceeded to pick Sh10 Kensalt before being caught by the supermarket manager and CCTV operator.

When questioned in court, Macharia blamed witchcraft for the offence, stating that someone from his village had bewitched him.

Interestingly, in August, Macharia was sentenced for the theft of lotion from the same supermarket. Magistrate Merisia Opondo was visibly shocked, asking the accused why he could not go back to the village since he was old.

At the time, Macharia promised to go back to his village if the court forgave him, but the magistrate declined to sentence him and forwarded the file to another magistrate.
