On September 24, 2019, Sarah Wairimu attended the funeral of her husband Tob Cohen at the Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi, where she was allowed by the court to attend the interment. In a poignant moment, she declared, ''Even in this, I'm going to fight."
Wairimu's words reflected her determination to clear her name amidst allegations of murdering her husband and having his body dumped in a septic tank at their home. The police had picked and interrogated her for the third time over the disappearance of Cohen on July 19, 2019, from their Lower Kabete home, leading to her arrest on August 29.
High Court judge Stellah Mutuku had ordered that Wairimu be escorted to the Jewish cemetery to attend the burial, citing a production order to the OC Lang'ata Women's Prison. The burial was postponed to Tuesday as there weren't enough Jewish adults to constitute a quorum for the interment.
Wairimu's family lawyers and Cohen's family lawyers agreed that the burial of the businessman was conducted in accordance with the Jewish rights. A huge turnout was reported at Cohen's interment, with local residents showing up to witness the final journey of a man they never knew.
