On September 23, 2019, Ghana's security forces made a significant arrest in a bid to maintain stability in the country.

According to Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the joint operation was aimed at neutralising an elaborate plot to destabilise the government, with the ultimate goal of targeting the presidency.

The suspects, including a medical doctor, were arrested on Friday at Citadel Hospital in Accra, where they were allegedly manufacturing weapons for the plot.

Security agencies had been monitoring the suspects' activities, including their contacts with some soldiers, for the past 15 months.

Minister Nkrumah assured the public that state security agencies remain vigilant and will work to safeguard national security and public safety.

Ghana is viewed as a bulwark of stability in a region characterised by insecurity and turbulence, with democratically elected governments in power since 1992.
