On Monday night, the first batch of Kenyan athletes left the country to represent Kenya in the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, from September 27 to October 6.
However, their departure was overshadowed by allegations of doping against Kenyan runners, which Athletics Kenya has dismissed.
Responding to the allegations made by the German Public Broadcaster, Athletics Kenya dared the broadcaster to prove the claims, stating that it would take action against the accused if the allegations were true.
The Federation also clarified that it is only the Anti-Doping Association of Kenya (ADAK) that carries out doping tests, not Athletics Kenya itself.
The Kenyan team for the championships includes:
- 400m Team: Alphas Kishoyian, Emmanuel Korir (men), Hellen Syombua, Mary Moraa (women)
- 800m team: Ngéno Kipng'etich, Emmanuel Korir, Ferguson Rotich (men), Eunice Sum, Jackline Wambui (women)
- 3000m steeplechase: Beatrice Chepkoech, who is looking to maintain her good run with a previous world record of 8:44.32 in Monaco (2018)
- 1,500m: Timothy Cheruiyot, Ronald Kwemoi, George Manang'oi, Faith Chepng'etich, Winnie Chebet
