On September 24, 2019, the burial of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen was finally laid to rest at a Jewish cemetery on Wangari Mathai Road in Nairobi, in a ceremony attended by high-profile personalities.

The ceremony, initially postponed on Monday due to a last-minute shortage of ten Jewish priests required for a traditional sendoff, proceeded smoothly on Tuesday.

Notably, Tob Cohen's wife, Sarah Wanjiru, who is a suspect in his murder, led the mourners in tossing soil onto the coffin, accompanied by her brother-in-law, Bernard Cohen.

Wanjiru was escorted by her lawyer, Philip Murgor, and prison authorities, as per a special court order permitting her release from remand.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's first cousins, Ngengi Muigai and Captain Kung'u Muigai, as well as Nyeri Transport CEC Muthui Kariuki, were also in attendance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bernard Cohen poignantly referred to the burial as a 'second burial' for Tob, highlighting the fact that the businessman had initially been buried in a septic tank after his murder.

“We're here to bury Tob a second time, this time with dignity,” he said.
