On September 24, 2019, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the murder of opposition politician Dusabumuremyi Sylidio, which occurred at his canteen shop in Shyogwe Health Centre, Muhanga district.
RIB Spokesperson Modeste Mbabazi stated that investigations led to the arrest of the pair, but declined to provide further details.
According to RIB, Dusabumuremyi, the FDU-Inkingi party national mobiliser, was stabbed to death on Monday night. The party's leader, Victoire Ingabire, reported that the slain politician was attacked by two men while at work.
Ms Ingabire alleged that the murder of Mr Dusabumuremyi is part of a series of attacks on members of her party, aimed at intimidating them. The party has faced several incidents, including the disappearance of Eugène Ndereyimana, a FDU-Inkingi representative, two months prior, and the abduction and subsequent death of Anselme Mutuyimana, the party's spokesperson, in March.
FDU-Inkingi member Jean Damascène Habarugira was killed in 2016. Despite these incidents, Ms Ingabire stated that the party would not abandon their cause due to intimidation.
