On September 24, 2019, Tob Cohen, a Dutch tycoon, was finally laid to rest at the Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi, Kenya, following a private ceremony that had been postponed the previous day due to a lack of enough priests.
The burial ceremony, which was conducted in line with Jewish customs, required the presence of 10 priests and a Rabbi, among other things. Despite the initial postponement, the ceremony went ahead on Tuesday, September 24, at 2:30 pm, with Cohen's wife, Sarah Wairimu, in attendance, having been granted permission by the court to do so.
Other notable attendees included Cohen's friend, Patrick Muiruri, a former Gatundu North MP, and lawyers representing both the widow and Cohen's relatives. However, Cohen's sister, Gabrielle van Straten, was noticeably absent, having flown out of the country with her husband, Roy, on September 21, a day after the opening of her brother's will.
The burial arrangements had been agreed upon by both Cohen's siblings and the widow, who had initially wanted the body to be handed to her and nobody else.
