On November 27, 2018, the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC) report on the Ruaraka land saga was rejected, sparking controversy. The report, which implicated Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Education PS Belio Kipsang, was backed mainly by senators allied to the National Super Alliance.

However, a recent statement by Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot revealed that Jubilee senators skipped the voting process to shoot down the report. According to a Hansard report, only 19 out of 47 elected senators participated in the vote, with 15 supporting the report and four voting against it.

Cheruiyot claimed that he led the mass walkout that denied the motion the much-needed numbers. However, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo disputed this, stating that the walkout was meant to save Kipsang and not Matiang'i.

CS Matiang'i denied being in a meeting with DP Ruto, urging Cheruiyot to stop lying to his people. The Ruaraka land report was a contentious issue, with some senators accusing Matiang'i and Kipsang of orchestrating the saga, which led to the loss of Ksh1.5 billion taxpayers' money on land declared public.

Yesterday, CPAIC chairman Moses Kajwang' said the disclosure had vindicated his committee from claims that it was engaged in a witch-hunt targeting some State officers.
