Nandi Governor Sang Forces Two Ministers to Resign ¶
September 24, 2019
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has been under intense pressure, forcing two county ministers to resign or face the sack.
Hillary Koech, the transport minister, and Stanley Baliach, the lands minister, were summoned to a private meeting with Sang, where they were given an ultimatum: resign or be sacked.
According to sources, Koech threatened to reveal scandals the governor had been forcing him to do, but Sang was not willing to listen. Instead, he told Koech to resign and go ahead with his plans to expose the governor.
After discovering Sang's stance, Koech decided to resign. Baliach, on the other hand, was said to have openly wept as Sang told him to resign.
Baliach was replaced by Philemon Bureti, while Dorice Rono took over from Koech at the transport docket.
The only executive Sang sacked was Valentine Chumo, the education executive linked to a Sh200 million scandal. Grace Sugut is now holding the education docket.
The reshuffle comes after the Senate Public Accounts Committee vowed to invite the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to probe Sang over a Sh17 million expenditure meant for the construction of Early Childhood Centres.
Sang blames Senator Samsom Cherargei, who wants to run for governorship in 2022, for engaging in a witchhunt using the Senate.
