Published on September 24, 2019, the Immigration Department has introduced a new policy aimed at curbing the increasing number of passport applications from Kenyans with no travel plans.

According to PS Gordon Kihalangwa, many applicants are flocking to application centers without any intention of traveling, but rather for 'fun'. This has led to a significant backlog in passport processing, causing inconvenience to genuine applicants.

The department has now made it clear that passports will only be issued to individuals with legitimate travel plans, effectively putting an end to frivolous applications.
