On September 24, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in the world of boxing when 21-year-old Bulgarian boxer Boris Stanchov collapsed in the ring and later died.
According to reports, Stanchov had been fighting under his cousin's license, Isus Velichkov, for nearly a year. His coach was aware of this arrangement, which has raised questions about the authenticity of Stanchov's boxing career.
The incident took place during a match against Ardit Murja in Albania. Stanchov suffered a cardiac arrest in the fifth round after being caught with a jab by his opponent.
Efforts to resuscitate Stanchov were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Isus Velichkov later revealed that Stanchov had been using his documents and medicals since 2018, and the coach was aware of this arrangement.
"He has been playing with my card since 2018. He said no problem, the coach knows," Velichkov was quoted as saying.
