On September 24, 2019, the UK Supreme Court delivered a landmark ruling, declaring Prime Minister Boris Johnson's decision to suspend parliament unlawful.
The court's decision was made in response to a challenge by opposition lawmakers who argued that the suspension was an attempt to limit parliamentary scrutiny ahead of the Brexit deadline.
Supreme Court head Brenda Hale stated in the ruling, "The court is bound to conclude... that the decision to advise Her Majesty to prorogue parliament was unlawful."
