Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (Kefwa) President James Situma, a former Harambee Stars defender, has registered for a Business Administration course at Zetech University, as seen in a photo from the university.
After hanging up his football boots, Situma is now pursuing a two-year certificate course in Business Administration, which he believes will provide a solid foundation for his future endeavors.
He plans to follow up with a three-year Diploma in Sports Management, an area he feels is crucial to his role as Kefwa president, where he aims to champion footballers' rights.
“I am proud to join Zetech and pursue a two-year certificate course in Business Administration as a foundation programme then later take a three-year Diploma in Sports Management,” Situma said.
He emphasized the importance of education for sportsmen and women, stating that it enables them to better manage their careers.
Commenting on Situma's decision, Zetech Vice-Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene noted that the training will equip Situma with the necessary skills to serve the football fraternity more effectively.
“We are proud to absorb Situma and empower him to invent his future through quality education that will contribute to his leadership at Kefwa,” Prof Munene said.
Keen to work with the sports sector, Zetech University aims to contribute to the development of the sports industry in Kenya.
According to Kefwa Secretary-General Jerry Santo, education is essential in streamlining and managing sports affairs in the country.
“We are proud to see Situma invest in higher education; this is a move that should challenge players to join a university and learn how to manage every aspect of the professional careers,” Santo said.
With his training and experience, Situma hopes to build capacity among the next generation of players and encourage them to invest in education.
