September 24, 2019 - Corteva Agriscience, a leader in seed technologies, crop protection, and digital agriculture, has officially launched its regional operations in East Africa.

The company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has set up its East African headquarters in Nairobi, with plans to expand its reach to the wider Eastern Central and Southern Africa (ESCA) countries.

According to Humphrey Kiruaye, Corteva Agriscience Country Lead for Kenya and the Great Lakes Region, the company aims to provide sustainable solutions to the challenges facing small-scale farmers in Kenya.

Working closely with the Kenya Government, research institutions, and academia, Corteva Agriscience seeks to harness expertise to help small-scale farmers maximize their land use and contribute to the country's food security goals, as outlined in the Big Four Agenda.

Kenya's small-scale farmers currently produce an average of 1.5 metric tonnes per hectare, compared to 5 metric tonnes in Ethiopia and 4 metric tonnes in Zambia.

By deploying cutting-edge farming technology and leveraging extension services and digital platforms, Corteva Agriscience aims to reduce post-harvest losses, which are estimated to be as high as 40% in Kenya.
