On November 2018, the Senate's Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) tabled a report implicating Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Education PS Belio Kipsang in the Ruaraka Land Scandal. The report alleged that they had irregularly compensated Nairobi businessman Francis Mburu Sh1.5 billion for land that belonged to the public.
However, what many people do not know is that Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi narrowly escaped death a few days before the report was tabled. Speaking on Tuesday, September 24th, 2019, Wamatangi narrated how his tormentors attempted to use a truck to run him over and make it look like an accident in Eldoret.
"One thing that is not known is that I almost lost my life in Eldoret during the tabling of that report. I was saved by people who screamed at me near a petrol station because I was driving a small car and a truck nearly ran me over. It was intended to assassinate me but God was on my side," Wamatangi said.
Wamatangi's ordeal was not an isolated incident. Over the weekend, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit claimed that he was ordered by Deputy President William Ruto to lobby Jubilee Senators against the report in order to save Matiang'i. The Interior CS, in a rare show of anger, criticized Cheruyoit at a funeral in Nyamira, accusing him of spreading "stupid lies".
